Jude and I are part of an art project called Wildflowering LA (wildflowering.org). Our yard is one of 50 sites in the county that are growing wildflowers in the project. We sowed seeds on November 16, 2013, when the project workers installed the sign in our yard.

Though it was a dry fall before we sowed the seeds, since then we've had weekly rainfall into December, and the wildflowers are germinating nicely.  Some of the seedlings are easy to recognize.
